The ‘Puss in Boots’ opera for children was written in 1912 by the great Russian composer César Antonovich Cui, a member of the Russian Five, prominent composers who brought a new phase in the development of the opera genre.

The opera was written in four tableaux and it describes a well-known fairy tale about the heroism of a cute cat. The cat manages to turn the poor young man into a rich marquis through various interesting and unpredictable situations. He conquered the castle with his skill so the marquis became a real opportunity for the king’s son-in-law. The wedding is the happy ending of this fairy tale, which is sung with beautiful music written for all participants in the opera.

César Cui is the first Russian composer who wrote opera for children. The main feature of his compositions is a combination of passion and poetry that reaches the deepest parts of the human heart with sincerity.

In addition to the ’Puss in the Boots’, some of his famous works are ‘Snow Hero’, ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and ‘Ivan the Fool’.
